This Homemade Taco Seasoning is the best! It’s made with cumin, smoked paprika, garlic, onion, coriander, cayenne pepper and chili powder. It’s so good on tacos, nachos, enchiladas, quesadillas, burrito bowls…basically any Mexican recipe!
Trust me, you’ll never want to go back to taco seasoning packets after you try this. I love that it’s all fresh ingredients. Plus, making homemade taco seasoning is cost effective and really simple. Basically, you just mix a bunch of spice together, shake or stir them up, then store them in an airtight container. It’s a great gift for your friends too!
And, the best part is that you can customize it to your tastes. If you love spicy seasoning, maybe add a little cayenne pepper. Or, if you are a garlic lover, maybe add a little more. Also, my recipe makes about 1/2 cup, but it’s really easy to double or triple this recipe if you want to have extra on hand. I definitely recommend smoked paprika if you can find some. It just takes the flavor to the next level!
Is taco seasoning spicy?
It depends. If you buy it at the store, look for chili pepper or cayenne pepper. That usually means it will be at least a little bit spicy. I use cayenne pepper in my recipe because I like a little kick. However, feel free to omit it if you don’t want any spice.
When do you put taco seasoning in the meat?
Add the seasoning when the meat is about 95% done then stir and cook until it’s all the way done.
